Randleman, NC - North Carolina kicked off the new year by hosting their State Indoor Championship on January 7th in the city of Randleman. A new attendance record of 153 competitors highlighted the growth of archery in the state.
Preston Roberson set a new state record in the Senior Compound Men's division with a 592. Roberson shared, “This is my first time shooting a USA Archery event and I really enjoyed spending time with all the great people.” Roberson has been a pro on the ASA circuit for numerous years. What a great way to be introduced to USA Archery!
The closest competition was seen in the Men’s Compound 50+ with only three points separating first and second place with Jason Silverman taking the top spot.
This was the first time the Town of Randleman has hosted a USA Archery Indoor event. Rene Bryant, of Randleman’s town council, was very impressed with how well-organized the tournament was, as well as the diversity of the crowd. She said it was great to see so many kids involved in archery.
USA Archery’s North Carolina State Coordinator Guy Hutcherson commented “This was the largest state championship for North Carolina with the most participants I’ve ever seen.” Hutcherson has assisted USA Archery in the role of State Coordinator since 2017. During that time, the state has played host to JOAD Target Nationals twice and has grown its USA Archery membership from 400 to nearly 700 members.
