Hattiesburg, MS - The largest USA Archery indoor event Mississippi has ever seen was held at William Carey University on January 21st. The 2023 Mississippi USA Archery Indoor State Championship boasted 63 archers, with 8 clubs represented, including 2 college teams.
It was a great showing for the Women’s College divisions, with the largest turnouts in the Barebow and Fixed Pins divisions. ReAnna Foster (William Carey) took first place in Barebow and Rebekah Corbin (William Carey) solidified the state title with a 558 in Fixed Pins.
It was a close competition in the Collegiate Men’s Fixed Pins division, with Jake Capers of Blue Mountain College edging out Lewis Ahlwardt of William Carey University by only two points.
Intense competition wasn’t the only thing happening at the event. Samantha and Allison Roberts have grown up shooting events at William Carey University, and they will both be attending in the fall of 2023. They commented “We were so excited to see the William Carey archery team at work and can’t wait to be part of this team!”
Renee Roberts, USA Archery Mississippi State Coordinator and Director of Southern Draw JOAD, shared, “I am humbled at the amount of support I received to host our largest indoor event to date, without which, we would not be able to do this.”
