USA Archery is now seeking nominations for upcoming elections. The first is for a Representative and an Alternate for the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee's (USOPC) Athletes' Advisory Council (AAC); those two athletes will also be named to the USA Archery (USAA) AAC. There will also be an election to fill an additional two recurve seats on the USAA AAC and three compound seats. A third election is for three recurve seats on the USAA Para AAC. After the conclusion of these elections, there will be another election to fill the compound Athlete Director position on the USAA Board of Directors.

The mission of the USOPC AAC is to communicate the interests and protect the rights of athletes, in cooperative support of the USOPC achieving its mission. This election is to fill the USAA Representative seat and to select an Alternate. The USAA Representative will also be elected to the USA Archery Board of Directors as the USOPC Athlete Director for a four-year term through December 31, 2024. The male and female nominees with the highest vote totals will be named the Representative and Alternate based on their respective individual vote totals, and both will also be named to the USAA AAC. Additionally, the athlete with the highest individual vote total will be named to the USAA Board of Directors as the USOPC Athlete Director to serve a four-year term.
Responsibilities for the USOPC AAC include participation in AAC and USA Archery’s Board of Directors, regular communication with elite archers, USOPC sports partners and the Athlete Ombudsman, and reviewing all materials sent by the USOPC AAC. The Alternate will attend USOPC AAC meetings when the Representative is not available. Learn more about the USOPC AAC.
Qualifications for Eligibility: Those individuals who compete in the recurve discipline (Olympic) or recurve or compound disciplines (Paralympic) and who have represented the United States as athletes in the Olympic Games, Paralympic Games, the Pan American Games, Para Pan Am Games, World Championships or other major international competitions in the sport of Archery identified by the USOPC as an Operation Gold competition within the ten year period prior to December 31 of the year in which the election is held shall be eligible to run for election to the USOPC Athletes’ Advisory Council. Additionally, to be eligible to run for election, an individual shall be a citizen of the United States and eighteen years of age or older by December 31 of the year in which the election is held and meet all other eligibility requirements outlined in the USOPC Athletes’ Advisory Council Bylaws. No Member or Alternate may have received any sanction in relation to the World Anti-Doping Code.
Athlete Advisory Council members must maintain USA Archery membership throughout their term of service (cannot lapse more than 30 days) along with maintaining current U.S. Center for SafeSport training and Background screening requirements. Further, an individual shall be a member of USAA forty-five days prior to the date of the election (record date) to be eligible for candidacy or to vote in the election.
USAA AAC members advise the Board of Directors and USAA staff on any issue relating to athletes or athlete rights. Council members represent the athlete membership and act as a voice on their behalf. They are responsible for broadening communication between USAA and active athletes. They review all team selection procedures and athlete support programs.
For this election, two recurve seats (in addition to the two from the USOPC AAC election) will be filled for a term of four years through December 31, 2024, and three compound seats (one male, one female, and the overall third highest vote total winner regardless of gender) to serve a term of two years through December 31, 2022 to enable staggering of recurve and compound elections going forward. The nominees in both the recurve and compound elections with the next highest vote totals will be elected as an alternate USAA AAC member to serve the remainder of a term if a seat is vacated.
Qualifications for Eligibility: Those individuals: (i) who have represented the United States as athletes in the Olympic Games, the Pan American Games, World Championships or other major international competitions in the sport of Archery designated as USOPC Operation Gold competitions within the ten year period prior to December 31 of the year in which the election is held, or (ii) who have competed in and finished in the top half of USAA’s National Outdoor Target Championships Senior Division as athletes within the two year period prior to December 31 of the year in which the election is held shall be eligible to run for election to the Athlete Advisory Council.
Additionally, to be eligible to run for election, an individual shall be a citizen of the United States and eighteen years of age or older by December 31 of the year in which the election is held (“Eligible Athlete”). Athlete Advisory Council members must maintain USA Archery membership throughout their term of service (cannot lapse more than 30 days) along with maintaining current U.S. Center for SafeSport training and Background screening requirements. Further, an individual shall be a member of USAA forty-five days prior to the date of the election (record date) to be eligible for candidacy or to vote in the election.
No AAC member shall serve for more than two consecutive four-year terms.

For the upcoming election there will be three recurve positions (minimum one male and one female) for a four-year term through December 31, 2024, .
The nominee in the recurve election with the next highest vote will be elected as alternate Para Athlete Council members to serve the remainder of a term if a seat is vacated.
Qualifications for Eligibility: Those individuals: (i) who have represented the United States as athletes in the Paralympic Games, the Para Pan American Games, Para World Championships or other major international competitions in the sport of Archery designated as USOPC Operation Gold competitions within the ten year period prior to December 31 of the year in which the election is held, or (ii) who have placed in the top half of the Para Senior division at the USAA’s National Outdoor Target Championships as athletes within the two year period prior to December 31 of the year in which the election is held (“Eligible Para Athlete”) shall be eligible to vote and run for election.
Para Athlete Advisory Council members must maintain a USA Archery membership throughout their term of service (cannot lapse more than 30 days) along with maintaining current U.S. Center for SafeSport training and Background Screening requirements.
No AAC member shall serve more than two consecutive four year terms.
The USAA Board of Directors represents the interests of the Archery community for USAA in the United States and its athletes by providing USAA with policy, guidance and strategic direction. The Board oversees the management of USAA and its affairs, but it does not manage USAA. They select and oversee the CEO and focus on long-term objectives and impacts. The Board is responsible for reviewing and approving strategic plans, budgets, business plans, financial strategies and audits. View a full list of responsibilities in the USA Archery Bylaws.
Compound representatives elected to the USAA AAC for the term beginning in 2021 and existing compound representatives on the USA Archery Para AAC will be eligible to run for the position of Compound Representative to the USA Archery Board of Directors in an election later this year.
The Compound Representative to the Board of Directors shall be directly elected by Compound Athletes who meet the "Eligible Athlete" or "Para Eligible Athlete" requirements by majority vote for a term of two years through December 31, 2022 (per Bylaws Section 7.8).
