NOVE MESTO, Czech Republic – The brackets are set at the Para-Archery World Ranking Event in Nové Mesto after qualification rounds took place on Tuesday.
In fact, Paralympic gold medalist Kevin Mather and Michael Lukow both navigated one round of elimination matches late on Tuesday in recurve men open to take their place alongside Eric Bennett in the 1/16 round, which will take place on Wednesday. Teenager Jordan White, who will feature at the Paralympic Games this year, lost his 1/24 match 6-2 to Dejan Fabcic (SLO).
Bennett, the 14th seed, will meet Vaclav Kostal from the host nation, while Mather tackles Giorgi Managadze (GEO) and Lukow faces second seed Lixue Zhao (CHN).
Candice Caesar and Karen Sternfeld will continue their recurve women open journey on Wednesday. Caesar plays Wahyu Retno Wulandari Wulandari (INA) in her 1/16 round match, with Sternfeld up against Veronica Floreno (ITA).
Wendy Gardner and Ben Thompson are the two representatives in the compound division. Gardner has Helena Nunes de Moraes (BRA) between her and a 1/8 round meeting with sixth seed Nur Syahidah Alim (SGP). Thompson also starts at the 1/16 round, against Adrian Martinez Torre (ESP).
In the W1 men open, Jason Tabansky qualified as the eight seed. He has a 1/8 round match against ninth seed Kohji Oyama (JPN). Top seed Tianxin Zhan (CHN) awaits the winner in the quarterfinals.
Team eliminations also take place on Wednesday. In the recurve men open doubles, Bennett and Mather start against Georgia. Second seeds China will take on the winners in the quarterfinals.
Should Caesar and Sternfeld topple Italy in their recurve women open doubles, then top seeds India await in the last four.
Mixed team competition starts on Thursday. Bennett and Caesar combine in the recurve open mixed team to play India; Gardner and Thompson take on Costa Rica at the 1/8 round, with Iran facing the winners.
