CHICAGO, Ill. – Kevin Polish edged teammate Andre Shelby to win a fourth gold for the USA on the final day of the 2023 Chicago Para-Archery Championship, a world ranking event.
Shelby’s was one of four silver medals won by the USA on Sunday, at the Dunbar Park complex to the west of Lake Michigan. Tracy Otto claimed two silvers, with the other going to Candice Caesar.
The United States finished with a total of 12 medals in Chicago, consisting of four gold, five silver and three bronze.
Polish and Shelby met in the compound men open division. They were level after three ends, only for Polish to open up a two point gap going into the final set of arrows. Shelby rallied with a maximum 30 but Polish held on for a 146-145 victory.
Otto took silver alongside Jason Tabansky in the W1 mixed team, with the pair losing out to Korea. It was then Korean archer Kim Ok Geum who denied Otto gold in the women W1 open.
Caesar capped off an impressive weekend for the USA as she delivered the team’s final medal of the competition, landing silver in the recurve women open.
