COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado - Over 4,500 archers competed nationwide over the last few weeks at USA Archery's 2017 JOAD National Indoor Championships and U.S. National Indoor Championships, making it by far, USA Archery's largest event in history. Spread out over 13 locations, archers' scores were compiled and the events culminated yesterday, finally crowning new Indoor National Champions. The huge rise in competition spread beyond the number of participants to the scores they achieved as many archers shattered records.
As state and national records fell to impressive new high scores, standout 15-year old Sachiko Keane (Staten Island, New York), scored an incredible 589/600 during the JOAD National Indoor Championships at the Lancaster, Pennsylvania location.
Sachiko shared: "I let myself relax and just did what I knew to do. My coach always tells me 'form and focus and the scores will follow.' You cannot focus on the outcome, it takes too much away from the shot you should be focusing on. I don't go into a tournament thinking about what score I need to set a record."
"It took me a year to gain the 1 point I needed to shoot a personal best from last year," Sachiko added on how she finally achieved the record over her standing personal best of 588. "That's a really long time to spend thinking about just the outcome of a tournament."
