COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado - This past week, USA Archery nominated an incredibly strong Olympic Team for the Games in Rio. With 2015 Longines Prize for Precision winner Zach Garrett joining London 2012 silver medalists Brady Ellison and Jake Kaminski, the men's team is hungry for gold. No. 4 in the world Mackenzie Brown has locked her spot and is looking to round out the team with 5-time Olympian Khatuna Lorig and Hye Youn Park. To help this phenomenal team achieve their Olympic gold dreams, USA Archery is proud to present the 2016 U.S. Olympic Archery Team staff.
The USA Archery Board of Directors and Selection Committee is excited about the staff that will head to Rio in support of our athletes. The U.S. Olympic Archery Team staff will be lead by National Head Coach KiSik Lee with the support of two-time Olympic Coach Mel Nichols and Team Leader Guy Krueger.
"I have more trust in my Olympic team staff for Rio 2016 than ever before," commented Coach Lee. "I believe our team staff members have passion, experience and a willingness to help our team succeed!" Coach Lee is the most decorated coach in the history of Olympic archery, helping his teams win 15 Olympic medals, including 7 gold medals, and 24 World Archery Championship medals.
Under the leadership of Coach Lee, Coach Nichols has coached numerous U.S. athletes and teams to World Cup medals in recent years, and supported the team in London in 2012. He shared his excitement to be selected again for 2016: "I am extremely honored to be named as a Coach of our Olympic team for Rio. Our archers have been working hard and I will do whatever they need me to do to support them from now through the Games."
Coach Krueger agreed: "It's truly an honor to have the opportunity to serve these athletes as they represent the United States at the most prestigious sporting event in the world." Krueger is the National Women's Head Coach and National High Performance Manager for USA Archery.
"USA is sending a talented and experienced team of athletes and coaches to Rio this summer," commented USA Archery CEO Denise Parker. "I am excited to stand with all of the U.S. fans and cheer on this team. They have all worked so hard to prepare for the Games, I believe they are ready for the challenge."
The U.S. women will compete in Antalya, Turkey on June 16th in a last chance team qualification event as part of the Archery World Cup that week. To earn one of the last three team qualification slots left, they will have to make the podium during that competition. The Olympic archery competition will take place August 6-12 in Rio de Janeiro at the famous Sambadrome venue.
All staff nominations to the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team are subject to approval by the United States Olympic Committee.
