2010 World Cup No. 1 Ranked Brady Ellison to Lead Team USA at Ogden Stage

After the first two of four qualifying stages of the 2010 Archery World Cup season, Team USA has collected an impressive 14 medals to lead the World Cup Nations Ranking with 443 points and is poised to excel at the pivotal third leg in Ogden, Utah. 2008 U.S. Olympian Brady Ellison (Chula Vista, Calif.) will lead the squad of 16 archers onto the field for the Aug. 3-7 event, which will be held at Weber State University and Lindquist Field.

Ellison, who is ranked No. 1 in Men's Individual Recurve, has collected five medals after the first two events. The USA Archery resident athlete won the gold at the Croatia World Cup in recurve men and recurve mixed team. At the Turkey World Cup, Ellison brought home the silver in men's team recurve and mixed team recurve, and rebounded for a bronze in men's individual recurve.

Archers compete at the four qualifying stages earning valuable qualifying points in hopes of earning one of the 32 athlete positions that will compete in the World Cup Final in Edinburgh, Great Britain, Sept. 18-19. The 2010 World Cup season started in Porec, Croatia that was followed by Antalya, Turkey. The fourth and final qualifying stage will be held in Shanghai, China. All sessions of the Archery World Cup Stage 3 in Ogden, including the championships at Lindquist Field on Aug. 7, are free and open to the public.

Also joining Ellison on the men's recurve team is five-time U.S. Olympian Butch Johnson (Woodstock, Conn.) and three-time U.S. Olympian Vic Wunderle (Charlotte, N.C.). Wunderle, who has competed at both World Cups this season, claimed the silver medal at the Croatia World Cup, after dropping a tight contest to Ellison, and is currently ranked fourth overall in men's individual recurve. Johnson competed at the Turkey World Cup and is returning for the Ogden event in hopes of improving his chances to qualify for the World Cup Final in Edinburg, Great Britain. Rounding out the U.S. men's recurve team is Jake Kaminski (Chula Vista, Calif.), who is also a USA Archery resident athlete.

The women's compound team for Ogden will be led by Erika Anschutz (Hamilton, Ohio), who is displaying one medal of each color after the first two stages. She claimed her first individual World Cup title in Turkey and is currently ranked third in the standings. Anschutz helped the women's team to the silver in Croatia and won a bronze in the mixed team compound in Turkey. Accompanying Anschutz will be Brittany Lorenti (Trumbull, Conn.), Jamie Van Natta (Toledo, Ohio) and Diane Watson (Hudson, Fla.).

2009 World Champion Reo Wilde (Pocatello, Idaho) and 2009 World Cup Final runner-up Braden Gellenthien (Woodbridge, Va.) will lead Team USA in men's compound, who helped set two new World Records at the Croatia World Cup. Wilde, who only competed at the Croatia event, claimed the individual men's compound bronze and helped Team USA to the men's compound team title. Gellenthien, who is currently ranked second in World Cup standings, brought home the silver medal from the Turkey event. Wilde is sitting sixth overall in the World Cup standings.

Rodger Willett Jr. (Glouchester, Va.) and Jesse Broadwater will complement Wilde and Gellenthien in Ogden. Willett claimed a bronze medal at the Turkey World Cup, after losing to Gellenthien in the semifinal. Broadwater is making his first World Cup appearance this year.

The women's recurve team is comprised of a pair of U.S. Olympians and a pair of USA Archery resident athletes. This team is headlined with two-time U.S. Olympian Jennifer Nichols (Bryan, Texas) and 2008 U.S. Olympian Khatuna Lorig (West Hollywood, Calif.), who has competed at four Olympic Games for three different countries. The resident athletes are Kristin Braun (Chula Vista, Calif.) and Heather Koehl (Chula Vista, Calif.).
