HOUSTON - USA Archery will focus on grassroots growth with its exhibition at the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) Congress here this week. As the National Governing Body for the Olympic sport of archery, USA Archery is focused not just on grooming elite athletes and Olympic hopefuls - but on introducing the fast-growing sport to potential archers across the country.
At the show, USA Archery will unveil new marketing material, including a brochure featuring content on Explore Archery, a new program coming in 2014. Explore Archery will be highlighted in USA Archery's seminar, which will take place from 4:45-6:00 pm in Room 352B at the George R. Brown Convention Center.
Explore Archery is a program of USA Archery that is supported by, and developed in partnership with, the Archery Trade Association and the Easton Foundations. This exciting new initiative will assist park and recreation departments, after school programs, archery retailers and other organizations seeking to implement introductory archery programming.
Explore Archery will offer flexible options for teaching the fundamentals of the sport, including in-depth curriculum support for program providers. The program includes an introduction to different types of archery games and activities, and offers achievement awards that encourage archers to challenge themselves, have fun, and continue engaging with the sport.
As a first-step programming option, Explore Archery provides a fun and exciting introduction to the sport, and encourages archers to transition to more structured programming, such as USA Archery's Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) and Adult Archery programs, and other types of archery competitions.
At NRPA Congress, USA Archery staff is also expected to highlight a new initiative with NRPA that will allow certified Park and Recreation Professionals to earn continuing education units (CEUs) for taking USA Archery instructor certification courses.
Representing USA Archery at NRPA Congress will be Mary Emmons, USA Archery Outreach Director; Emmons will be joined by Doug Engh of the Easton Foundations, as well as USA Archery Program Manager Callie Grieser and Program Coordinator Jon Taylor.
