COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado - USA Archery encourages its members to take advantage of available opportunities to have their voices heard. USA Archery is governed by the USA Archery Board of Directors, and their policy decisions are greatly influenced by input from committees. USA Archery committees represent the voices of many different communities within our sport including Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD), Collegiate, Officials and Rules and Athletes. This month, several members were newly elected to USA Archery's Para Athlete's Advisory Council (AAC), and JOAD and Collegiate Committees.
USA Archery recently held an election to fill several open seats on the Para AAC: compound, recurve and military positions. The Para AAC represents the Para athlete membership and acts as a voice on their behalf. They provide feedback to the USA Archery Board of Directors and staff on Para related issues and selection procedures, and act as a resource to and communicate with Para athletes.
Elected to the compound seats, Lia Coryell, Lance Thornton and Benjamin Thompson join Michael Lukow, the new recurve representative and Richard Burkett, the military representative. Eric Bennett will also remain on the AAC as a recurve representative.
The Collegiate Archery Program Committee reelected E.G. LeBre (MIT, Brandeis University, Wellesley) as the east region representative, and Rodney Estrada (Georgia Institute of Technology) as the south region representative and welcomes Julia Lam (University of Pittsburgh) as the south/east region athlete representative.
"I am honored and excited to be elected as an athlete representative on the Collegiate Archery committee!" shared Lam. "Collegiate archery always comes with challenges both on the archery range and on campus. The USA Archery Collegiate Program has made my experience as a student-athlete and club founder possible, so I look forward to supporting and representing my fellow athletes and student leaders to improve the program together."
As a Collegiate Archery Program Committee member, representatives are asked to advise USA Archery staff and leadership on Collegiate Archery Program related issues, act as a resource to, and communicate with colleges and universities and USA Archery State Associations in their region and coordinate events and activities. Committee members also review Collegiate Archery Programgrant applications and assist in advising how grant funds will be distributed.
Jeff Greer (Music City Archery) and Heather Pfeil (Lancaster Archery Academy JOAD) join the JOAD Committee as the newly elected south and east region representatives. JOAD Committee members advise USA Archery staff on JOAD Club and Event related topics, act as a resource to, and communicate with, State Associations and State JOAD Coordinators, and coordinate and promote JOAD activities within their region. They also review Ann Hoyt/ Jim Easton JOAD Grant applications and providerecommendations to USA Archery staff for Grant allocationsand select the USA Archery JOAD Award recipient as warranted.
On her election, Coach Pfeil shared: "I am looking forward to supporting USA Archery in continuing the growth of Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) across the United States. JOAD has always been an important part of my life and I am excited to work with, and act as a resource for, JOAD Clubs and the archery community within our Eastern Region."
