CHULA VISTA, California - USA Archery Education and Training Manager Guy Krueger and National Head Coach KiSik Lee led two Level 4-NTS (L4-NTS) Coach Certification Courses at the Easton Archery Center of Excellence in the last few weeks. These week-long courses take Level 3-NTS education further to focus on coaching, communication, sports science in archery, and biomechanics with a large emphasis on the National Training System (NTS). The course also focuses on developing coaching ability through practical exercises and scenarios.
To complete the course and earn the certification, coaches must meet several requirements, including passing a written exam, a practical exam and completing two mental management courses. L4-NTS coaches are eligible to apply for international team staff positions, National Development Programs and are highly sought out as knowledgeable archery resources around the nation. A record 37 coaches earned the L4-NTS certification status, and six current L4-NTS coaches attended the courses as a refresher.
A record number of female coaches attended the L4-NTS Course this year, which was in large part thanks to a generous grant from the Easton Sports Development Foundation provided to give selected female coaches the opportunity to develop as high level coaches.
Mandy Griego, one of the recipients of the grant said, "The L4-NTS Coach Course has transformed my coaching skills! I understand the complexities of the shot process and shot cycle at such a deep level now. From the first week with my team after the course, I was able to see and correct issues I hadn't noticed before. This has really increased my confidence as a coach!"
Hoyt Research and Development Technician Chris Webster attended the November L 4-NTS Coach Course and said, "USA Archery has done a fantastic job with the level 4 coaching course. From the guest speakers and practical exercises to the detailed information covered. This was a really enjoyable experience and I learned so much. I would definitely recommend this course to everyone."
USA Archery's Guy Kruegershared his excitement for the participants: "Our goal for each Level 4 course is to develop better coaches. We want to produce the best coaches in the world. We saw every single coach improve drastically over the span of a week." He added: "I also want to add a special thanks to Linda Beck and Eric Tollefson for being such a big part of the course. We could not have done it without them."
