COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado – USA Archery is pleased to begin accepting applications for the 2021 Regional Elite Development (RED) Program. The mission of the RED Program is to develop compound and recurve athletes, through the USA Archery athlete competencies and High-Performance Ethos, who are competitive nationally and internationally. RED athletes are expected to take a professional approach to their training and to work with the RED Program Coaches to set goals for proficient training.
For 2021, RED selection priority will be given to 2020 RED Program Participants who will still meet the RED Program age requirements for 2021 as their 2020 program was negatively impacted by COVID-19. Additional spots will be awarded with priority to archers named to the 2021 Cadet USAT, followed by archers that are committed to a program of preparation to make a future USAT and desire to represent the United States on future international teams.
RED Program Overview
The program will consist of six teams throughout the United States, divided into the following regions: East, Southeast, South, North, West, Southwest.
The RED teams will each consist of 12 select promising male and 12 female archers ages 13-17 per region in both the compound and recurve divisions. Each regional team will host at minimum two mandatory camps per year to aid in the development of high performing athletes. All camps will be 3-4 days long. The top two male and female archers per division in each region will be selected to attend the National Camp.
Additionally, the program will include monthly online athlete development training sessions and athletes will be provided optional opportunities to work individually with RED Coaching staff on form development outside of the camp setting.
The RED Program Development Guide outlines the framework for how athletes will be developed. RED Program Coaches will coach, teach and lead in accordance with USA Archery’s Code of Conduct, High Performance Ethos and guidelines from the U.S. Center for SafeSport and USADA. RED coaches will teach athletes in a manner consistent with the direction and philosophies set forth in the USA Archery Regional Elite Development Curriculum aimed to develop the USA Archery Competencies.
The RED Program is designed to develop personal coaches as well as athletes. Personal coaches will be encouraged to work as a team with the RED coaches to develop their athlete together.
To participate in the RED Program, there is a registration entry fee of $150 which includes a custom RED Program jersey and participation in expert led monthly virtual RED Athlete Development sessions. For an additional $150, athletes can opt to sign up for three additional personal coaching sessions with a RED Regional Coach.
