COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado – USA Archery has partnered with the North Carolina Recreation and Park Association(NCRPA) to support the expansion of target archery programming in parks and recreation departments statewide through the Explore Archery grant program. In an effort to grow archery at the community level, USA Archery helped secure generous grant donations of $80,000 from the Archery Trade Association and Easton Foundations.
The Explore Archery grant is intended to help local parks and recreation departments to start Explore Archery programs. Explore Archery is a fun, easy way to get started in archery. This short-term program is perfect whether participants arenew to the sport of archery or a beginner archer looking for an introductory program. Explore Archery teaches important skills like range safety and proper shooting form and includes exciting games and the chance to earn achievement awards.
“NCRPA is excited to partner with USA Archery to offer local park and recreation agencies with the training and equipment necessary to offer the Explore Archery program in their communities” shared NCRPA Executive Director Michelle Wells. “Explore Archery can be a great addition to the programs already offered locally as it is for persons of all ages and abilities.”
Selected applicants are invited to send two staff members to a two-day instructor certification academy where they will become certified as a USA Archery Level 2 Instructor and qualified to teach the Explore Archery program, which includes options for one-day try archery programs, and multi-week instructional classes and camps. This ensures that participants of the programs are receiving a consistent, top quality introduction to the sport with an emphasis on safety, proper technique and fun. Graduates of the academy receive an equipment kit for their department, the Explore Archery curriculum and other program materials, so they may offer archery as a new sport option for community members.
In addition, grant recipients will be provided information on additional grant opportunities and next level archery programs such as USA Archery’s Junior Olympic Archery Development Program, Explore Bowfishing and Explore Bowhunting Programs.
The following communities have been selected as grant recipients:
