FOLEY, Ala. – There will be 450 archers in southern Alabama this week, representing more than 30 colleges, competing at the USA Archery Collegiate 3D Nationals.
Competition gets underway on Thursday afternoon at the Graham Creek Nature Preserve with a 10 target team shoot mixer. There are then two rounds of shooting on Friday. Saturday sees an individual class shoot-down in the morning, followed by team rounds in the afternoon.
This year's event concludes on Saturday night when the mixed equipment team rounds move indoors to the Foley Event Center, and follow a banquet.
“The collegiate program is full of talent,” said USA Archery CEO Rod Menzer. “And that will be on full display at the Collegiate 3D Nationals, with a number of archers who have medaled internationally this year.
“We are looking forward to being back in Foley, and to an exciting few days, where the quality of archery will be matched only by the rivalry, intensity and drama.”
Among those competing will be University of the Cumberlands freshman Isaac Sullivan. He was a compound U21 men’s team bronze medalist at the World Archery Youth Championships in Ireland earlier this year.
Sydney Sullenberger was a double medalist in Ireland, winning individual gold in the compound U21 women and bronze in the compound U21 women team event. She will be competing for Columbia University.
Carson Krahe was a bronze medal-winning teammate of Sullenberger’s at the World Youth Championships, but this week will be in the colors of Texas A&M.
The Texas A&M team will include a number of elite recurve archers who have a big 2024 looming. Trenton Cowles, Alex Gilliam and Riley Marx will continue their push for a place on the U.S. Olympic team when qualification trials resume in Phoenix in early April. T Sanchez will also be part of that group gathering in Arizona. He is representing Lindsey Wilson College over the coming days.
Latest scores and results will be on Between Ends, with action images from each day in Foley on USA Archery’s SmugMug page. The mixed equipment team rounds will be broadcast live on Saturday night via USA Archery’s YouTube and Facebook channels.
