Surrounded by waterfalls and jungle, USA team set for the 2023 Pan American Field Championship

IGUAZU, Argentina – In the shadows of more than 250 majestic waterfalls, 26 archers from the USA are in South America to compete in the Iguazú 2023 Pan American Field Championship in Argentina.

The six-day world ranking event includes barebow, compound, longbow, recurve and traditional bow, and is taking place in Puerto Iguazú, a city in northeast Argentina, near Iguazú Falls and Iguazú National Park.

The breathtaking Iguazú Falls – which consist of more than 250 waterfalls in the middle of the Parana jungle – have been seen in such movies as Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Captain America: Civil War and Black Panther!

It is a family affair for the Cooleys as mom, dad and daughter - Amy, Marcus and McKenna - are all in attendance. The parents are competing in barebow, with McKenna in recurve women. There is also the mother-daughter combination of Carissa and Mara Craghead. They will contest the compound 50+ women and compound women respectively.

Wednesday is the official practice day. Competition gets underway on Thursday, with the first of two days of qualification, when archers take aim at 24 targets positioned at unknown distances. On Friday there will be 24 targets at known distances.

The weekend starts with team and mixed team competition, while Sunday is when the individual competition enjoys elimination rounds through the semifinals. The 2023 Pan American Field Championship finishes on Monday with the individual medal matches.
