SHANGHAI, China – Kris Schaff will continue his quest for gold at the Archery World Cup Stage 2 in China against Mohammad Madandar of Iran after finishing sixth in compound men’s qualification on Tuesday.
Schaff and Madandar face each other on Thursday in the round of 32. The USA archer posted a score of 704 in qualifying, which included a qualification-high 35 Xs, one more than top seed Jongho Kim (709) of South Korea. After his 72 arrows, Madandar managed 679, good enough for 59th.
Compound archer Schaff is joined in Shanghai by US teammate Brady Ellison, who heads into qualification in the recurve men’s category on Wednesday.
Ellison won gold in the mixed team category with Casey Kaufhold at the World Cup Stage 1 in Turkey last month. He arrived in China off the back of success at Gator Cup in Florida on Saturday. Schaff took bronze in Newberry in the compound men.
There are four World Cup stages, before the final in Mexico in September. As well as Turkey and China, there are also stages in Colombia and France.
Stage 3: Medellin, Colombia – June 13-18
Stage 4: Paris, France – August 15-20
Final: Hermosillo, Mexico – September 9-10
