USA Archery kicked off the first Regional Elite Development (RED) Camps of the year. The first camp of the year in each region is also the selection event for the RED National Camp. The top two female recurve, male recurve, female compound and male compound archers are selected to attend the National Camp later this year. The National Camp is an exclusive opportunity to train at the Easton Archery Center of Excellence with the National Head Coaching Staff, RED Coaches and other subject matter experts and the camp is designed to help the highest performing athletes elevate their training even further.
The West Region, led by Regional Head Coach, Tom Hinojosa started off the season with their first camp in Salt Lake City, UT at the Easton Salt Lake Archery Center March 13-15, 2021. The camp focused on skills necessary to perform under pressure both indoors and outdoors and prepared athletes for the upcoming outdoor season. Coach Tom also did a session on the topic of Growth Mindset with the athletes.
Coach Tom said, “Our first RED Team West camp was a great success and all athletes, parents, coaches, and coach observers felt that a lot of learning occurred and that it was a great kick-start for the outdoor season. As a result, all of our RED Team West members are even more excited about getting out to Phoenix for the Arizona Cup as well as the other USAT events later this year.”
Karen Romrell, a parent of one of the athletes, commented, "It was really valuable the way the coaches created tournament conditions at both indoor and outdoor distances. The discussion about approaching things with a growth mindset was great, and the specific ideas were very helpful. I also think it's very valuable for the kids to get the opportunity to shoot with other skilled, competitive archers, especially during this crazy year."
The following seven athletes were selected for the National Camp from the West Region:
The Southeast region had their first camp March 19-21 in Valdosta, GA and was led by Coach Danny Pincus. The Southeast region divided their first camp into two locations and the next camp is slated to start April 2 in Alabama and will be led by Southeast Regional Head Coach Dee Falks. Their selections for the national camp will be announced once the second camp is completed.
The following regional camps are scheduled to take place:
Many of the camps have additional space available for archers to attend as a guest and participate in the camps. RED Guest applications can be found here.
Coaches, Personal Coaches, and Parents who coach their youth athlete can also attend camps as observers to learn from the coaching staff. If you are interested in attending a camp as an observer, you can register here.
