COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - SKB Cases will continue as the official USA Archery bow case sponsor after agreeing to a new four-year partnership, starting in 2025 and going through 2028.
Under the agreement, SKB Cases will support USA Archery as well as athletes who make the USA Archery Team as part of this multi-year deal.
“As an all-American brand, nothing makes us more proud than being able to support some of our nation’s finest athletes within the USA Archery organization,” began Steve Kerpan, VP of the Sports Division at SKB Cases.
“We’ve been the official bow case of USA Archery for more than seven years, and we consider our role - that is, providing the best protection for every athlete’s essential gear - an extreme honor.”
Established in 1977 by company founders Dave Sanderson and Steve Kottman, SKB Corporation manufactured its first guitar case in a residential garage in Anaheim, Calif.
Kerpan added, “SKB Cases have a reputation for being the best, toughest cases you can get for transporting valuable bows and archery equipment.
“For Team USA athletes, that protection is of the highest importance. The constant traveling to and from competitions, where finely tuned, precision gear matters the most, demands a quality case that was engineered specifically to protect archery gear.
“And since that’s what SKB does best, we see our partnership with USA Archery as a natural fit.”
Kottman and Sanderson met while on the rowing team at CSU, Long Beach in Calif. in 1971 and they began building guitar cases for friends using homemade vacuum mold equipment.
By 1976, the pair decided it was time to grow and took their cases to Doug Browne, a music store owner who offered to invest in the business. They moved their equipment into a windowless shed behind Browne's warehouse they called the "pig hole".
Within a year, they faced their first setback when a fire gutted the warehouse, destroying everything. Undeterred, the pair parted with Browne and managed to finance the opening of a small manufacturing facility in Orange, Calif.
“SKB Cases has been constantly innovating since its humble beginnings in 1977,” Kerpan explained. “And that’s what really sets us apart from the competition.
“Incorporating customer feedback and staying on top of technological trends and advancements has helped us to develop and deliver the best, most functional products for over 45 years.
“It’s this close connection to our customers and small-business agility that continues to fuel our growth and success to this day.”
It was in 1979 that Kottman and Sanderson would convince Fender that SKB could provide 2,500 cases for a special anniversary edition of the Stratocaster guitar, and the company has not looked back since. By 1983, they employed 20 people, added military contracts to the business in 1987 and entered the sports arena in 1990.
Today, with three factories and distribution all over the globe, SKB is recognized as an industry leader in the design and manufacture of molded polymer transport cases.
“Our athletes travel all over the country and all over the world,” began USA Archery CEO, Rod Menzer. “It is vital that their equipment arrives safely and securely, and so we are delighted to have this renewed partnership with SKB Cases.
“In partnering with a company at the top of its game, we know our athletes’ equipment is in safe hands, allowing them to perform at the top of their game. We thank SKB for their continued support of USA Archery and are proud to call them the official USA Archery bow case sponsor.”
