DUBAI – After two days of compound open competition, the recurve open, W1 and Visually Impaired 1 archers finally took the field at the World Archery Championships for qualification and preliminary matches.
In today’s successes, Lia Coryell, who finished 4th at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games just months ago, qualified 6th today with a 583.
Reigning silver medalist Eric Bennett is sitting 13th in the brackets for the recurve men open, posting a 606, and Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Champion Kevin Mather is 18th with a 590. Timothy Palumbo qualified 21st with 584.
Bennett and Mather ranked 6th in qualification for the new men’s doubles event, and Bennett and Candice Caesar are 11th for the mixed team competition after Caesar scored an 18th seed individually with 507.
In the VI1 competition, Janice Walth seeded 5th with 327 and then smashed a 6-0 shut out to win her first match and seal her spot in the top 8.
Competition resumes tomorrow with team matches for the recurve open and W1 divisions, followed by compound finals where USA’s Matt Stutzman will shoot for gold. Medal matches will be broadcast live Friday-Sunday via World Archery TV. Live results from the competition are available on the World Archery website.
