DES MOINES, Iowa – This year’s JOAD Target Nationals will be held in the Hawkeye State of Iowa, with over 800 of the best young archers converging on James W. Cownie Soccer Park from July 12-16.
The event, though, is about much more than archery. The JOAD Target Nationals brings together the archery community, and while there will be intense competition throughout, there is also time for coming together.
Unofficial practice on Tuesday, July 11 is followed a day later by official practice, as well as the JOAD Nationals Kick-Off event at the Izaak Walton League of Des Moines, to include a DJ, local mascots, oversized games and lots of local prizes (must be present to win).
The Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) Target Nationals is open to youth archers in the recurve, compound, fixed pins and barebow divisions, ranging in age from U13 to U21.
All participants will shoot a single distance, double 72-arrow qualification rounds, according to their age class, gender and bow type (category).
During the event, athletes and their families can visit the famous Downtown Des Moines Farmers’ Market on the Saturday. Other attractions include the Blank Park Zoo, the Science Center of Iowa and Smash Park.

There is still time to register for this wonderful event, and Des Moines cannot wait to welcome the USA Archery family. Early registration is open through June 21. Registration closes June 28.
