YECHEON, Korea - James Lutz and Sawyer Sullivan are through to the semifinals of the compound men at the Hyundai Archery World Cup Stage 2 following day three in Korea.
Lutz will face Prathamesh Bhalchandra Fuge (IND), the 20th seed, with Sullivan up against world number one Mike Schloesser (NED). Lutz reached the last four with a shootoff win over top seed and world number two, Mathias Fullerton (DEN).
Earlier, Kris Schaff came through two rounds before falling to Jozef Bosansky (SVK). Nick Kappers won his opening match before a shootoff decided his 1/16 round match in favor of Pablo Gomez Zuluaga (COL).
In the compound women, Alexis Ruiz missed out on a semifinal place after defeat to world number one Ella Gibson (GBR). Cassidy Cox, Olivia Dean and Carson Krahe all went out at the 1/16 round. Cox had won her opening match against Pham Ngoc Anh Le (VIE).
Lutz and Sullivan will play their semifinal matches on Saturday, with gold and bronze medal contests to follow. They will both also feature in the compound men gold medal meeting with Turkey earlier in the day, alongside Schaff.
Recurve team competition took place on Thursday. Both the men’s and women’s teams came through their opening matches, winning 6-0 against Malaysia and Iran respectively, before each succumbed at the 1/8 round against third seeds Chinese Taipei and Germany.
Mixed team competition kicks off Friday’s action. The recurve pairing of Brady Ellison and Casey Kaufhold face Indonesia, with top seeds Korea awaiting the winners. The compound mixed team of Olivia Dean and Sawyer Sullivan start against Australia.
Recurve elimination takes place on Friday afternoon. Ellison begins against Pablo Acha Gonzalez (ESP) at the 1/32 round, Jack Williams meets Senna Roos (NED), Kaufhold faces Madalina Amaistroaie (ROU), while Jennifer Mucino-Fernandez takes on Qixuan An (CHN).
