World's Best Archers to Compete in Ogden During 2011 World Cup

 

Ogden, Utah - Elite archers from more than 30 countries will travel to Ogden, Utah to compete in the pivotal third stage of the Archery World Cup, August 2-6. The event is free and open to the public.

For the second consecutive year, Ogden will host the only Archery World Cup stage in the Western Hemisphere. The third stage will be contested at Weber State University on August 2-4 starting at 9 a.m. continuing until early evening. Finalist will advance to picturesque Lindquist Field to the medal matches on August 5 and 6. Event begins at 5:30 p.m. with first arrow shot at 6:30 p.m.

"We are fortunate to host the world's best archers and invite everyone to attend this thrilling international world-class competition," said Greg Easton director of the Easton Sports Development Foundation.

The USA Archery Team will continue their quest for excellence in men's, women's and mixed teams in recurve and compound classes on their home turf. Record holders, world champions and archers bound for the 2012 London Summer Game will contend for the Gold. Contenders include first ranked Brady Ellison (recurve) and Roger Willet Jr. (compound), both coming off historic back-to-back World Cup victories. They will be joined by reigning world champion Reo Wilde (compound), four-time Olympian Khatuna Lorig and two-time Olympian Jennifer Nichols as well as 2008 World Cup Champion Jamie Van Natta. Many of these athletes will vie for individual as well as team medals in their respective divisions.

The World Cup brings archers from more than 30 countries. The best of the best from France, Australia, Chile, Germany, India, Italy, Malaysia, Russia, Turkey, Venezuela, Netherlands and Great Britain are anticipated to attend.

The Archery World Cup consists of four stages - Antalya (TUR), Porec (CRO) and Shanghi (CHN), and Ogden (USA). The World Cup Finals will commence on September 24-25 in Istanbul, Turkey.

Ogden, Utah was awarded the honor of hosting their second consecutive World Cup stage following a successful competition in 2010. Ogden will also host the Archery World Cup in 2012.

The 2011 Archery World Cup in Ogden is made possible by partnerships between the International Archery Federation (FITA), Easton Sports Development Foundation, USA Archery, the Ogden Weber Convention and Visitors Bureau and Utah Sports Commission.

About the Archery World Cup

Established in 2006, The Archery World Cup is a popular event for athletes, sponsors, media and fans. The FITA-sanctioned event allows organizers to select unique competition venues, which include shooting over a canal at the 2009 Archery World Cup in Demark and competing on a floating platform at the 2006 final in Dubai. In 2011 archers will compete surrounded by the towering Rocky Mountains of the West during the third stage.  The Archery World Cup has grown into one of the annual premiere events for the international federation that attracts approximately 300 athletes from 30 countries at each of the various qualifying stages.
