SHANGHAI, China - At the conclusion of the Hyundai Archery World Cup's first leg, the U.S. picked up two more medals to join the compound men's team and compound mixed team bronze medals from yesterday's events.
The women's team of Mackenzie Brown (Flint, Texas), Khatuna Lorig (Denver, Colorado) and LaNola Shepherd (Lehi, Utah) climbed from an 11th place seed to the gold final against Russia. Russia opened, taking the first set 53-50. The U.S. trio tied it up in the second set with a 51-50 win, but Russia was the victor of the next two sets and the match for gold.
Brown returned to the field in the afternoon session with 2016 U.S. Olympic archery teammate Zach Garrett (Wellington, Missouri) for the mixed team event. Ranked 5th in qualification, they only fell to Korea in the semifinals to advance to the bronze match, again against Russia. Starting off strong, the duo took a solid 4-0 lead, but with a few shots a little off, Russia came back for a 4-4 tie. Garrett and the Russia's Kozhin both opened with perfect 10s. Brown followed an 8 and Erdynieva with a 7 and the U.S. clinched the win and the bronze.
