USA Archery Board Approves Important Updates for Para Archers

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado - Following the recent USA Archery Board of Directors meeting in Chula Vista, California, USA Archery has several important updates for Para athletes.

The 2019 World Archery Para Championships are set to be held June 3-9 in the Netherlands. The U.S. Team Trials Selection Procedures have been ratified and posted on the International Team Selection Procedures page. The trials will be held in two stages beginning with the 2019 Arizona Cup. The 2019 World Archery Para Championships will put Team USA on track for Tokyo 2020 with our first chance to earn national quota slots for the Paralympic Games!

The Para National Ranking System (NRS) 101 document has also been updated to explain how athletes can qualify for the 2019 Para USAT. Following recommendations from the Para Athlete Advisory Committee regarding the U.S. National Target Championships, which is a mandatory event, in years when there is a Para international event that conflicts with the National Target Championships, one of the following events may be substituted as the mandatory event if approved by USA Archery:

  1. Para WRE held in the U.S. with open registration; or
  2. Para World Team Trials; or
  3. First round of the Paralympic Team Trials

For 2018, the mandatory event may be either the National Target Championships or the World Ranking Event in Salt Lake City on September 7-9. On September 6th, there will be an International Classification opportunity. All requisite forms and materials for classification must be submitted by July 1. Click here for more information.

The Board of Directors also approved USA Archery's service animal policy, available here.
