FITA Judge Marty Swanson of Riverside, Calif., has been awarded the distinguished title of FITA Honorary Judge by the FITA Judge Committee. One of five judges who were awarded honorific titles, Swanson was thanked by the Committee for his many years of service as an International Judge.
According to FITA, "Honorary Judges are a select number of people that have gathered experience as a result of their active commitment to the FITA family." Swanson has served as Judge at many notable national and international competitions, including the U.S. National Target Championships, the Archery World Cup, the World Masters Games, and the 1996 Olympic Games. He has also served as both a Judge and Chairman of Judges at numerous World Championship events.
"Marty will be surely missed in the International judging community," stated Tom Green, Chair of the USA Archery Officials and Rules Committee and Judge Representative to the USAA Board of Directors. "He has always been calm and the voice of reason, even in the most difficult situations, and even when you were up to your knees in mud and it was pouring down rain for days."
Four other judges were honored by the Committee, including Jean-Pierre Gabarret (FRA) and Miroslav Villi (CRO), who received the Judge Committee Award, and Alojz Mauser (CRO) and Pol Ney (LUX), who were awarded the Emeritus title.
