COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado - This year, there are many opportunities to represent the U.S. team in international competitions around the globe. Archers can compete for spots on the Master, Senior, Para, Barebow, Junior or Cadet United States Archery Teams (USAT) and many will represent the U.S. at the Archery World Cup and World Championships events. USA Archery members can also compete for U.S. team spots on the 2017 World Games and World University Games teams.
On what it means to make a U.S. team and wear the USA letters across your back, Karissa Yamaguchi commented: "The jersey is so much more than a new shirt. Wearing 'USA' unifies the individual with a team that shares the same strive for excellence and encourages each member to be their best. Competing with this team in an international event similarly is an incredible opportunity to represent my country and showcase what being an American is all about."
The World Games will be hosted in Wroclaw, Poland in late July this summer. Recurve and Barebow archers can compete for spots on the U.S. team for this event during the U.S. National Field Championships in Darrington, Washington this June. Compound archers can earn spots on this team during the two-part trials for the U.S. team for the World Archery Championships, which will run in conjunction with the Arizona Cup in April and the Gator Cup in May. The World Archery Championships will take place in Mexico City in mid-October.
Other 2017 world championship events include the World Archery Para Championships in Beijing in September, the World Archery Youth Championships in Rosario, Argentina in early October. These events will have stand-alone trials events to qualify for the U.S. team. There will also be a World Archery 3-D Championships in Cortina, Italy in September and the 2018 World Archery Indoor Championships will be held in the USA's own Yankton, South Dakota! The selection procedures for these two events will be coming soon.
For Collegiate archers, this year also holds the 2017 World University Games in Taipei. The U.S. team trials for this event will be held in conjunction with the National Outdoor Collegiate Championships in Chula Vista, California this May.
