COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado - The USA Archery Virtual Tournament closed out 2022 strong, with 486 archers from 38 participating clubs.
Competition was fierce, especially in the U18 Recurve Women, which was the largest division with 29 archers! Barebow athletes matched the number of recurve athletes competing with 140 athletes, and more women than men competed by a narrow margin. Another rising demographic is the Fixed Pins division, which represented over a quarter of the more than 200 athletes competing in the compound bow divisions.
As part of the year-end event, USA Archery invited clubs to give back to their community by raising money or awareness of a local charity. The grand prize of $150 in archery supplies went to UJ Santa Fe Trail Archers of Long Beach, California. The club raised money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, a nonprofit organization which funds type 1 diabetes research. They also coordinated their outfits to appear like an archery target!
Honorable mention goes to Tropical Troopers 4-H JOAD Club of Miramar, Florida who crafted gift bags for men living in assisted living facilities. They were able to collect supplies to make 70 gift bags along with holiday cards for local residents. Tropical Troopers will receive two hats signed by USA Archery Resident Athletes to distribute to their club members.
