USOC Announces Colorado Springs as Site for 2011 National Coaching Conference
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) announced today that the 2011 National Coaching Conference will take place in Colorado Springs, Colo., from June 22-25, 2011. Coaches, coach educators and sport science professionals from around the country will gather at the Antlers Hilton hotel in downtown Colorado Springs to share information and ideas. The theme of the 2011 conference is "Educate, Collaborate, Celebrate."
Hosted by the USOC, in association with the NCAA, National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) and National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE), the annual conference focuses on enhancing coaching knowledge and disseminating the latest research, trends and innovations in order to develop beginner to elite athletes for optimum performance. USOC, National Governing Body, university and sport professionals will be presenting on topics based on the National Standards for Sport Coaches (NASPE, 2006) and appropriate for all sports at all competitive levels.

"This conference will mark a tipping point by providing the opportunity for all the major stakeholders in amateur sports in the United States to come together to discuss the merits, methods and challenges in improving our national coaching education and athlete development system," David McCann, USOC manager, coaching education, said. "We are excited to host this year's conference in Colorado Springs, the hometown of the USOC."
As part of the conference, the annual USOC Coach of the Year awards will be presented during a dinner on Friday, June 24. The final three candidates in each award category will be announced in the spring, including the National Coach of the Year, Paralympic Coach of the Year, Developmental Coach of the Year, Volunteer Coach of the Year and the "Doc" Councilman Science Award recipient. The national winners in each category will be unveiled on-site in Colorado Springs at the dinner.
The conference will conclude with local community sport events in Colorado Springs on June 25 held in conjunction with the annual celebration of Olympic Day.
