This document outlines updates on 2020 USA Archery JOAD Target Nationals, Field Nationals and World Team Trials events, Outdoor Nationals and Traditional Nationals.
We eagerly await the day we can rejoin each other on the competition field. In this ever-changing landscape, USA Archery’s decisions must ensure we create both a safe and fair playing field. We continue to see travel and quarantine restrictions across the country with unequal ability for people to prepare for and attend competition, concerns of economic hardship for our members, our event partners and our organization as a whole, students missing school as the season is pushed back further, and great questions of uncertainty. We are working hard to do the right thing for all involved and we appreciate your support, patience, input and feedback as we work to find answers.
As a reminder, USA Archery also announced updates to the 2021 USAT Qualification Procedures.
On May 22, USA Archery, with the support of the Board of Directors, announced that it would not be safely possible to hold JOAD Nationals as planned and that we would look to postpone to alternate dates. After further conversation with our event partners in Decatur, Alabama, and in consideration of our member feedback survey results, we were unable to find viable dates to reschedule and we have cancelled this year’s event. The 2021 JOAD Nationals is scheduled for July 7-11, 2021, if you’d like to reschedule any reservations. We will announce 2021 hotel room block information in the next few weeks.
Earlier today, World Archery announced that the 2020 World Archery Field Championships have been cancelled. With USA Archery’s Field Nationals and Trials scheduled for the same location in Yankton at an earlier date, we are also cancelling these events. The World Games and World Field Championships have been awarded for 2022, so the Trials for those events will be rescheduled.
The USA Archery Target Nationals and U.S. Open is still scheduled for August 12-15 in Richmond, Virginia, but we continue to monitor the situation and are proceeding with caution. We assure you we are taking precautions and planning for a safe and healthy event; our partners in Virginia are waiting for clarification on a recent update that pertains to gathering size for outdoor sporting events. Registration is open and we will send another update once we know more, likely in the next few days.
Notes for Planning your Travel:
In the case of event cancellation, USA Archery recommends booking flights with the insurance option, looking for hotels with flexible cancellation and refund policies or that do not require pre-payment. If the event is cancelled, we will issue refunds minus a service fee beyond our control. USA Archery will not issue refunds should you choose to cancel past the cancellation deadline.
The 2020 Traditional Nationals are cancelled.
We thank you all for your support and understanding as we put these changes into place. While we adjust to the reality of a new normal, we hope these practices will make for a fun and safe competition venue this summer and look forward to seeing you on the field!
