COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado – Kris Strebeck, Head Coach of the University of the Cumberlands Archery Team, was named the 2020 National Collegiate Coach of the Year.
Coach Strebeck commented: I’m very honored to receive this award. I would like to congratulate the other nominees and to thank my players and coaching staff for all the hard work they put in. I would also like to thank our President Dr. Cockrum and Athletic Director Chris Kraftick for all the support that they give our team.”
While this has been a challenging year with the spring collegiate season cancelled, there is still much to celebrate. Coach Strebeck led his team to a second consecutive Collegiate 3D National Title. 14 Cumberlands’ Patriots finished in the top 8 of their divisions including 3 individual National Champions, 2 runner ups and 2 bronze finishes.
At Indoor Nationals, Strebeck’s team had 10 top 10 finishes, including 1 National Champion, 2 bronze finishes and 8 archers qualified for the Collegiate Indoor Nationals Final.
The Patriots shared: "Coach Strebeck knows how to coach archers on the range, but also can relate to them outside of the sport. He makes sure he frequently checks on all of his archers throughout the season, and helps college feel more like ‘home’. If someone is having a bad day, we don’t have to question if we can go to coach and talk to him about it. Whether it be archery related or not, he is always there to talk and to help us to the best of his ability. Strebeck is one of a kind and our team is blessed to be able to call him our coach. He pushes his archers to be the best that they can be and to always strive to be better than we are."
USA Archery is proud to congratulate Coach Kris Strebeck on earning this award. The Collegiate National Coach of the Year is selected by votes from USA Archery’s Collegiate Archery Program from the Regional Coaches of the Year.
