Titles to defend as the USA heads north for the World Archery Field Championships

LAC LA BICHE, Canada. – Brady Ellison and Paige Pearce will lead a 35-strong team to the World Archery Field Championships, which run from Tuesday until Friday in the western Canadian province of Alberta.

Pearce arrives in Canada seeking to defend the titles she won two years ago in Yankton, S.D., which included individual gold in the compound women (pictured above) as well as gold in the compound mixed team, alongside Dave Cousins.

Cousins won gold in compound men and also collected men’s team bronze with Ellison and Matt Yacca. Ellison joined with Savannah Vanderwier to win recurve mixed team bronze, while Matt Nofel (pictured) returned with silver in the recurve men.

Vanderwier and Nofel have also made the 2024 team, which includes a strong barebow contingent consisting of the experienced Fawn Girard, plus Diane Cochran and Maggie Brensinger. Brensinger has twice set new world bests this year in barebow U21 women, while Cochran has claimed gold in 2024 at the Rebel Gear Buckeye Classic and also the U.S. Open.

Andrew Cousins and Chris Garcia are among the barebow men’s group. Both won silver at USAT Qualifier Series events this year, notably AAE Arizona Cup and Easton Foundations SoCal Showdown respectively.

As well as featuring seniors across barebow, compound and recurve, there will also be a U21 competition and the USA will be equally competitive in that department, with the likes of compound duo Dewey Hathaway – a double gold medalist at last year’s World Archery Youth Championships in Ireland – and Grady Kane, silver medalist in the 2023 Buckeye Classic at senior level.

On the U21 recurve women’s side, Abigail Kippes competes. She won gold at this year’s Arizona Cup and silver at SoCal Showdown.

The USA team was determined during USA Archery Field Nationals, which were held in Noblesville, Ind. in early June.

Follow along with all the latest scores and results from Tuesday, when archers venture out onto an unmarked course. On Wednesday, the distances will be marked. Those two days will serve as the qualification rounds, with individual elimination on Thursday and team/mixed team eliminations on Friday. Official practice takes place on Monday.
