BELKNAP, Ill. - Testing weather conditions are forecast in Belknap, Ill. for the start of the 2024 World Archery 3D Championships – U.S. Team Trials, which are taking place over the next two days at the Mermet Lake State Conservation Area.
A field of 68 will compete in barebow, compound, longbow and traditional bow to determine the US team for the World Archery 3D Championships, which will be in Mokrice, Slovenia from September 30-October 6. A maximum of three athletes from each gender will be appointed to the U.S. Team.
Among those competing this week will be Matt Yacca (barebow), a bronze medalist at the 2022 World Archery Field Championships, as well as Shiloh Butts. Butts won bronze at the 2022 World Archery 3D Championships in the longbow division, when held in Italy.
The archers will contest the first round on Wednesday afternoon when they are confronted with 24 targets, with the distances unmarked. They follow this with the second round on Thursday morning when the distances to the 24 targets will again be unknown.
