COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - USA Archery has announced changes for the Women's Excellence Program, an initiative designed to prepare and develop the most dedicated and hardworking female recurve archers in the United States.
Athletes selected to the program will work to achieve and sustain success at the Olympic and World Championship levels. Women's Excellence Program camps will be held at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, California four times per year.
Each camp will be an intensive four to five day program. Between training camps, Women's Excellence Program coaches and archers will continue to work together through the use of video conferencing via the Internet, or in person when applicable.
Though the Women's Excellence Program has been in existence since 2011, this program has recently undergone changes to provide improved opportunities for success for participating athletes.
Changes to the program include an increased eligibility pool, a new application process, funding availability for members of the Women's Excellence Program Team, and access to U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) performance support services.
The application process for the Women's Excellence Program includes an Application that must be completed, and minimum criteria that must be met in order to apply. The selection process then evaluates applicants based on several indicators, including competition experience, national ranking, goals and other factors.
