ROBION, France - The World Archery 3D Championships team competition features the top eight teams each comprised of one compound, one longbow, and one either instinctive or barebow athlete on each team.
The U.S. squad of Dalton Richardson, Dewayne Martin and Calvin Smock ranked 7th in qualification over two long days of shooting. In the shorter individual elimination rounds yesterday, Smock and Martin both made the quarterfinals and gained great experience that carried over to today's team event.
The trio faced 2nd seed Hungary in the quarterfinals and took a decisive 211-193 victory over eight targets. The semifinals saw them take on 3rd seed, Italy, with only four targets to determine who would shoot for either gold or bronze. The USA's 99 to Italy's 98 earned them a shot at gold and the world champion title in tomorrow's finals!
