MEXICO CITY, Mexico - At the conclusion of the World Archery Championships, Mackenzie Brown (Flint, Texas) was the sole U.S. archer to take the field for the recurve medal matches. Making her senior World Archery Championships debut this week, the Olympian catapulted from a 9th place seed to earn a spot in the bronze final.
All day, archers walked onto the bright pink stage and opened with initial arrows flying left. Ready to play the wind game, Brown dialed her sight in on the practice field and opened strong with a 10. Her opponent, Tan Ya-Ting of Chinese Taipei was also ready and the two split the first set with matching 28s. While Brown continued fighting hard in the wind, it kept shifting right as she released her arrows and did not operate in her favor. Tan also posted strong shots to take the next three straight sets for a 7-1 victory.
Brown commented: "The conditions were really challenging today. I did what I practiced in a sense of just shooting strong shots, executing well, and having a good mindset. At the end of the day, it comes down to being able to read the wind well and I think maybe my opponent did that a little better. Overall, I'm really happy with my performance here at my first world championships and I'm really happy to be here with my coach."
