DUBAI, United Arab Emirates – Team USA heads home from the 8th Fazza Para Archery World Ranking Tournament with a mixed team silver and an individual bronze, courtesy of Wendy Gardner and KJ Polish.
The pairing were unable to match their gold-winning performance from last year’s Para Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile, settling for silver in a match-up against Turkey.
Turkey raised their game and were solid throughout, not scoring less than 38 from each end. They led by 10 points going into the final end, with the USA scoring the maximum 40 to leave the final score 154-146.
Polish secured a second medal before the final day was done, defeating Jonathon Milne (AUS) 142-140 in the compound men open. Having led early on, Polish went into the final end trailing by one but his experience on the big occasion came through as he fired off 30 points to Milne’s 27 to win by two.
The next big event on the horizon will be the Paralympic trials qualification events, which will determine those athletes who will fill the five quota slots earned by the USA for the Paris Games later this year.
