LAC LA BICHE, Canada – Team USA archers made a strong run at the World Archery 3D Championships, topping qualification and storming through matches to earn nine spots in medal finals today. Through intense and tough competition, USA returns home with three podium finishes in a great showing.
Kenneth Riennas represented USA in the instinctive men’s class as a standout all week. He cleared the field in qualification and shot strong for a shot at the world title. In the gold match against Hungary’s Molnar, Riennas missed the first target and then matched Molnar arrow for arrow on the next three but was unable to stage a comeback, finishing 28-23 with silver.
The defending world champion men’s team of Calvin Smock, Dalton Richardson and Dewayne Martin and the top seeded women’s team of Heather Gore, Fawn Girard and Amber Yott both contested the bronze. After two targets, the USA women were up 47-40 and as Slovenia missed the target on a few more shots, the U.S. team pulled further ahead, taking the bronze win 99-73.
The USA men also took an early lead, but Italy forged a stronger run on the last few targets take the win 111-102.
All three U.S. women, Yott, Girard and Gore, then contested the individual bronze finals for their respective classes and each finished 4th, just off the podium. Smock met the same fate in the longbow men’s bronze final.
The barebow men’s bronze was guaranteed for the U.S. as Dewayne met teammate John Demmer III in the finals venue. Martin ran away with the match, claiming victory 33-29.
