CHULA VISTA, California – The 2019 Doinker SoCal Showdown is the first United States Archery Team (USAT) qualifier series event in history to break 600 participants. As the fourth consecutive attendance-record breaking event of the year, and the third USAT series event this season, USA Archery is thrilled to welcome all to a fantastic weekend of archery.
This season has been off to a whirlwind start, with three World Cups already down and the World Archery and Para Championships over the last few weeks in the Netherlands. The level of archery competition around the globe is rising quickly. World Champions Brady Ellison and James Lutz, and World Para Champions Ben Thompson, Eric Bennett and Mike Lukow are all competing this weekend and will set the bar for the Showdown.
This weekend also hosts the U.S. Team Trials for the World Archery Youth Championships, which will be held in Madrid, Spain later this fall. The youth team trials kicked off today with a qualification round and cut to the top eight archers in each category.
Catalina GNoriega, who shot for Team USA at the Youth Olympic Games last year, leads the recurve cadet women’s trials: “It would be awesome to be able to represent this country again at the youth championships. It’s nice to see all my hard work this past year finally paying off, I’m shooting better and looking forward to the future.”
Live results from the Trials and the SoCal Showdown are available here. Photos are posted daily to USA Archery’s photo site. For more, follow USA Archery on Facebook,Twitter, and Instagram.
