DUBLIN, Ohio - The U.S. National Outdoor Collegiate Championships opened today with a record demolishing 500+ athletes on the field – following the USA Archery and U.S. Collegiate Archery Association merger this year – breaking the previous record by about 200 participants. USA Archery is thrilled to welcome archers from 60 schools across the nation for this fun and exciting event.
Perfect, sunny weather greeted archers on a sprawling green field. The Darree Soccer Park boasts 132 targets in one line to accommodate this tremendous event and it is a beautiful sight to see. For some, NOCC is a favorite event to see friends from youth archery and other schools around the country, and for many others, this is their first national event and a huge source of excitement.
Texas A&M University is back and working hard for their 21st National Team Champion title, but schools such as James Madison University and Emmanuel are ready to challenge. Massive contingents from Lindsay Wilson College, the University of California schools and so many more are ready to storm the team rounds.
Many archers here are also competing in the World University Games – U.S. Team Trials this weekend, so competition will be fierce. The event schedule features 144 arrows of qualification over the next two days, with mixed team rounds tomorrow afternoon and team rounds on Saturday afternoon. Sunday will contest head to head individual elimination matches, followed by a special awards banquet.
Live scores throughout the event will be available on USA Archery's dedicated Live Results page. Photos each day will be posted to USA Archery's photo site, and make sure to follow USA Archery on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for more from the event.
