RICHMOND, Virginia – James Madison University played phenomenal host for the 2021 USA Archery Collegiate Target Nationals and brought home big honors from many talented archers. The school was also honored as coach Andy Puckett was named the 2021 Collegiate National Coach of the Year.
This award is voted upon by collegiate programs across the country from the pool of Regional Coaches of the Year, which included Kris Strebeck (University of the Cumberlands).
In nominating Coach Puckett for this award, his student-athletes shared: “Coach Puckett has been instrumental in getting our team shooting and tournament-ready during this crazy year. He has dedicated countless hours to formulating a plan in which we can use our facilities to shoot and he has been helping his archers gain their confidence and skills during these historic times. If not for Coach Puckett, our team would not be functional this season. He has shown tremendous dedication and support for the team that is unmatched by any other coach.”
They also commented: “He inputs countless hours, hard work, time, and effort to his duties as a coach, not to mention he does this completely voluntarily. He is the main reason most of the members of the team were originally interested in archery, and also why the members stay with the team throughout their college careers.”
USA Archery is proud to congratulate Coach Andy Puckett on earning this award.
