COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Olympic and Paralympic Games only happen every four years, but each year, clubs have an exciting opportunity to bring the Olympic movement to their community.
The U.S. Olympic Committee is calling for USA Archery Clubs to participate in Olympic Day 2015, which will be celebrated on June 23. Click here to download a flyer that explains Olympic Day details.
Olympic Day is a commemoration of the Olympic Movement and a celebration of the Olympic Values - Excellence, Friendship and Respect. It is a fantastic and free opportunity to enhance your organization's events and programming throughout the month of June. To learn more about Olympic Day, visit www.teamusa.org/OlympicDay.
Olympic Day hosts have the opportunity to potentially host an Olympian or Paralympian and will receive a complimentary Olympic Day flag and Team USA stickers for participants.
What sort of event can you host? A "try archery" event is a great choice, since it helps archers in your community to connect with those who want to try the sport, and drives membership for your club.
Other clubs have had success tying in Olympic Day events with archery tournaments, such as local or state competitions. The event should be free and open to the public, and hopefully give participants the chance to try an Olympic event - archery, of course!
On June 23, 1948, the International Olympic Committee celebrated the first Olympic Day, in which nine nations hosted ceremonies to celebrate the rebirth of the Olympics. Today, Olympic Day is commemorated around the globe throughout the entire month of June.
