COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado - Last month in Mexico City, Mexico, USA Archery Level 4-NTS Coach and National Judge Phil Graves was elected to the World Archery Americas (WAA) Council for a one-year term following significant contributions to WAA over recent years.
Graves was elected to the WAA Development Committee in 2014 for a four-year term and was assigned to develop a Coach Certification and Assessment procedure for WAA. After a year and a half of research and development, WAA accepted this procedure and made it mandatory.
Over the last two years, Graves has led coaching seminars to members of WAA and their respective Olympic Committees. These seminars coincide with countries who have submitted approved WAA Development plans and they receive start-up equipment from Hoyt and Easton through a grant administered by WAA Development Committee.
Graves also assisted in the development of the Caribbean Championships, an international event for intermediate level archers to gain valuable competition experience. The first installment of this event was held successfully in Puerto Rico earlier this year.
Graves commented: "I am very happy and motivated to be involved with WAA in developing archery in areas where there is an interest. It's very gratifying to go to an international event and see the new archers competing. What is even nicer for me, is to revisit a country who has received the equipment and training, and see kids and adult programs very active and enthusiastic. The growth of archery is truly a global experience, and we should be leading the way in assisting the development."
USA Archery thanks Mr. Graves for his efforts and congratulates him on earning this position.
