COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Marihelen Rogers, a lifelong archer and vibrant presence in the archery community, passed away on Wednesday, November 6th after an extended battle with cancer. Rogers was known for her love of archery, her willingness to help archers at the many events she ran, and her infectious sense of humor.
Rogers' tireless work ethic and advocacy for the sport could always be seen in her work with The Vegas Shoot. The thousands of people who attended that tournament each year will remember her pleasure at helping archers and vendors alike.
In addition to her work with the National Field Archery Association, Marihelen was also very active in the support and organization of many USA Archery events over the years, including the U.S. National Target Championships.
"I remember even as a young archer, Marihelen was always so nice to me. I feel very lucky to have not only shot with her as a competitor, but worked along-side her and called her my friend," stated USA Archery CEO Denise Parker. "Marihelen's sense of humor and love for friends, family and archers will be missed. I will remember her as a strong, independent and kind woman."
Whether manning the National Field Archery Association booth at the annual ATA Trade Show, or assisting those calling the NFAA office, where she worked for a number of years, Rogers' love for the sport of archery showed in all of her interactions with athletes, coaches and manufacturers.
"For sure, no matter what the situation, Marihelen was such a God send and I will always be grateful for her professionalism, dedication and support," commented Christine McCartney of USA Archery. "I would watch in awe as she did her job with such ease and skill, and truly admired how she managed to keep her wonderful sense of humor."
