COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado - U.S. archers topped almost every category of the Third Para Archery Mail Match of the Americas, created by World Archery Americas. The event, which spanned results compiled in the last four months, saw record participation with 73 archers from 10 countries.
Jerry Shields finished first for the W1 category, which was swept by U.S. archers. Just behind Shields was Paralympic Champion Jeff Fabry and in third, World Archery Athlete of the Year finalist, Lisa Coryell.
USA also swept the visually impaired category with Mark Schrand in first and Janice Walth second. Rio 2016 teammates Michael Lukow and Eric Bennett were first and second for the recurve open men's division while Jim Vennera finished 11th.
For the compound open women, Teresa Wallace took the bronze and Paralympian Samantha Tucker finished 5th.
Ben Thompson was the leading U.S. compound open men's scorer, finishing second, just ahead of Kevin Polish and Matt Stutzman who were 3rd and 4th respectively. Lance Thornton, Richard Burkett and Paralympic Champion Andre Shelby finished in the top 10. Jeremy Velez and Keith Sekora also participated in the event.
