Deadlines Approaching for Resident Athletes & Junior Dream Team

The annual application deadline for the USA Archery Resident Athlete Program is quickly approaching. If you are interested in applying, please click on the link below to review the necessary materials, which are due Thursday, July 1.

Also, the Junior Dream Team (JDT) is a program that was developed to bridge the gap between JOAD and the Resident Athlete Program in an effort to fast track those archers who show early potential. Selection is limited to athletes between the ages of 12 and 18 for the Junior Dream Team. If archers do not meet the criteria below, there are typically spots available on a case-by-case situation.

The Junior Dream Team consists of 24 of the most promising junior and cadet Olympic style archers in the country. The team travels to the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif., once per quarter for an intensive week long training camp. Between training camps, Junior Dream Team coaches and archers continue to work together through the use of video and video conferencing via the internet.

USA ARCHERY JUNIOR DREAM TEAM SELECTION PROCEDURES

The following athletes receive an automatic invitation to participate.

  • Top 3 junior males and top 3 junior females from the JOAD National Championships.
  • Top 2 cadet males and top 2 cadet females from the JOAD National Championships.
  • Top 3 junior males and top 3 junior females from the Youth World Championship Team Trials (NAA National Championships if no YWC).
  • Top 2 cadet males and top 2 cadet females from the Youth World Championship Team Trials (NAA National Championships if no YWC).

The remaining spots are filled at the discretion of the National Head Coach (NHC).

Discretionary selection will take into consideration the following:

  • Current physical and mental ability
  • Potential for future success as determined by the NHC
  • Positive attitude, maturity, and "coachable"

The Resident Athlete Program is located at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, California and provides athletes the opportunity to dedicate themselves and train full time for the Olympic Games. The Resident Athletes (RA's) train together in a team environment 6 days a week under the guidance of National Head Coach, Coach Kisik Lee. The Resident Athlete Program provides accommodation and meals, sports therapy, sports psychology, and a host of other athlete services. In addition to what the Olympic Training Center offers, we also fund some of the cost to national competitions, and our sponsors provide much of the equipment used by the Resident Athletes.

For more information or questions on these two important programs, please contact Guy Krueger, USA Archery Resident Athlete Coach at [email protected].
