COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – USA Archery is pleased to release qualification criteria for applicants interested in participating in the 2023 Regional Elite Development (RED) Program. Those interested must be a current member of USA Archery in good standing and meet the requirements set forth by World Archery to compete for the U.S.
Athletes chosen for the RED program are among the country’s most talented recurve and compound archers. They are dedicated to pursuing their dream to represent Team USA Archery on the world stage. RED archers have access to top-tier coaches from across the nation and resources to help make their dreams become reality.
Interested applicants must be between the ages of 13 and 17 on January 1st of the calendar year of the program. Successful archers in the program are expected to maintain a high level of training in addition to their duties as a student. Archers are recommended to shoot a minimum of 300-600 arrows per week while training at home.
RED Teams are designated by regions in the following categories: RED North, RED West, RED East, RED South, RED Southeast and RED Southwest. Up to 12 recurve and compound archers per gender will be selected per region.
Each year, two athletes of each gender per region will be invited to attend the RED Program - National High Performance Camp. Selection to the camp will be based on the performance at the previous year’s JOAD Target Nationals.
Being a RED team member offers young archers many unique benefits. Archers will be given the opportunity to train competitively at program camps and will have access to athlete competency development resources to help them achieve their goals. Archers are also given the opportunity for team development activities and access to sponsor discounts and products, as available. The RED program also offers personal coach development opportunities.
“The RED Program is a great opportunity for athletes who desire to become internationally competitive to develop within the framework of USA Archery’s Athlete Development Model. While participants will receive advanced coaching, the program also promotes teamwork and provides an introduction on how to develop within the pillars of the athlete competencies to achieve long-term success,” said Mary Emmons, USA Archery Chief of Sport Performance and Organizational Development.
Archers interested in applying may view the High Performance Program Guide for time-sensitive information on eligibility criteria, application details and more. If interested in RED or other High Performance Programs, contact [email protected].
