COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado – USA Archery is honored to recognize the 2020 All-American Academic Team Award Recipients. The Collegiate Archery Program gives archers a chance to compete on a national level with peers who also hold a rigorous academic schedule. This prestigious award recognizes not only excellence on the archery field, but the hard work, and dedication required to balance a heavy practice and competition schedule with excellence in the classroom.
Union College’s Denver Gross, who represented Team USA at the last World University Games, commented on earning this honor: “In short, it means a lot. Aside from archery, and any success I can achieve on the field, I want to be the best student I can be. Anything I do, I try to be the very best and the classroom is no different. This award is just a bit of confirmation that my hard work is paying off. As a kid growing up, even having a chance to have my name in a USA archery news journal would’ve seemed other worldly, and I just appreciate the organization as a whole, and my school for giving me the opportunities they have the last 3 years.”
Abigail Weir of UC Davis added: “This award, to me, is some of the most influential recognition I have received during my time in collegiate archery. The goal of receiving All-American Academic not only motivates me to strive toward perfection in archery but also to perform at a high academic level—which is a challenging, but rewarding, balance to maintain. I am honored to be a recipient of this prestigious award and bring glory to my team and UC Davis (go Ags!).”
The All-American Academic Team is composed of archers in each division and class and based on the following criteria:
