COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado – USA Archery’s Veteran Athlete Equipment and Athlete Development Grant Program awarded over $30,000 in funding to support veteran archers.
These grants are made possible by generous support of the Department of Veterans Affairs and VA Adaptive Sports. 23 archers were awarded grants of $1,000 each for equipment needs and an additional $9,000 was awarded to 10 archers to support event travel and athlete development.
Paralympic Champion and Navy Veteran Andre Shelby, a recipient of both grants shared: “The grant program allows us veterans to maintain our equipment so we can train effectively. It also helps in our travel expenses, so we are able to participate in more national tournaments. It really relieves the stress on making certain decisions. It is a great benefit to us!”
Diana Romero, an up and coming archer and Air Force veteran commented: “I am most appreciative of this gracious assistance. The USA Archery Athlete Development Grants show me that USA Archery is dedicated to its Veterans! It will make participating in archery more accessible to me; thank you so much!”
USA Archery is also currently offering a grant for veteran athletes and coaches and instructors who work with veterans to attend the 2020 Virtual Symposium free of charge. Learn more about USA Archery Grant Opportunities and Adaptive Archery.
