COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – USA Archery has today named nine athletes to its Resident Athlete Program for 2023, a program designed to support athletes the USA Archery National Head Coaches believe capable of achieving success at the Olympic Games. With Trials events for Paris 2024 starting this fall, this is a critical year for the program and its participants.
Resident Athletes are provided room and board at the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif. and receive premier coaching and training access at the Easton Archery Center of Excellence. Program benefits include access to fitness trainers and top-tier gym facilities, sports medicine, sports psychologists and nutritionists. Resident Athletes receive customized and periodized training plans to further develop within USA Archery’s athlete competencies.
The 2023 roster largely carries over from 2022 with nine of the highest performing athletes in the U.S. The program is headlined by three of the top four nationally ranked recurve women; 2018 Youth Olympian and Tokyo 2020 alternate Catalina GNoriega, compound world medalist convert and rising recurve star Savannah Vanderwier and Tokyo 2020 Olympian Jennifer Mucino-Fernandez. Alexandria Zuleta-Visser, who made it to the top eight in the last Olympic Trials and Ashley Kim round out the women’s team.
Tokyo 2020 alternate Matthew Nofel, Landon Richardson and Dallas Jones, all nationally ranked in the top 15 recurve men are joined by the USA’s number one U18 shooter, Christian Stoddard.
“Athletes in the program train under the direction of National Head Coach, KiSik Lee and Assistant Head Coach Chris Webster and in tandem with USOPC sport performance staff to work toward their goal of making the Olympic Team,” commented Mary Emmons, Chief of Sport Performance and Operations. “Five out of six of athletes on the 2020 Olympic Team and both alternates were either current or former participants in the Resident Athlete Program.”
For elite compound and Para athletes wishing to transition to Olympic recurve with the goal of representing the United States at the Olympic Games, a pathway is also provided.
