COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado – USA Archery expands the competition categories for USA Archery Nationals Events and the United States Archery Team (USAT) Qualifier Series. These events will have barebow divisions for cadets, juniors, seniors and Masters. Fixed pins (formerly known as Bowhunter) has been added as a division for archers in the cadet and junior divisions at all USATs and JOAD Nationals.
(Note: Fixed Pins archers will follow USA Archery Collegiate rules. These rules currently refer to the category as Bowhunter, but will be updated to Fixed Pins.)
The impetus for this change stems from our grassroots initiatives to grow the sport and develop competitive archers and our continued focus on growing collegiate archery. Collegiate archery currently offers divisions for barebow and fixed pins (bowhunter) archers and many schools make generous scholarship opportunities available to top finishers at the JOAD Nationals. To aid in the growth of those divisions and recruitment of talented archers with strong competition experience, USA Archery is excited to offer youth archers this new opportunity to participate in the USAT series.
The USA Archery Athletes Advisory Council and Para Athletes Advisory Council will provide feedback on updated USAT selection procedures, which will go through USA Archery Board of Directors approval later this year and will be posted to the USA Archery website and communicated with the membership.
